We are very flexible regarding your pick up and drop off time and will do our best to accomodate your request. This is part of our Condor Complimentary policy. Our vehicles are hired by the day, so a full days rental will be charged regardless of what time you pick up or, drop off your vehicle.
Upon confirmation of your booking we will provide details of our HQ in Santiago where you are able to pickup/dropoff your camper. If you're picking up in one of our remote locations we will coordinate to deliver the camper to your hostel, or another location.
Chile is a year round destination and you are able to travel anywhere throughout the country dependent on the seasons. It is however, strictly forbidden to take your Condor Camper and drive on the road between El Cerrito and Fuente Del Coyote. You must drive through Esperanza to get to both cities. If you want to visit Argentina or Peru, this must be arranged 2 weeks in advance of pick up to enable us to prepare all the paperwork and permits which will allow you to cross land borders with your vehicle. You are able to cross the border (s) as many times as you require.
Free camping is legal in Chile. Please respect private land and any ‘No camping’ signs at beaches or in National Parks. Please see our Eco wise page for tips on how to be a responsible camper. Download the ‘iOverlander’ app for an up to date list of camping places with user reviews. Staying overnight at Copec fuel stations is allowable and most of them have showers and WiFi. National parks have great wild camping spots, as well as free or cheap designated camping places. Whilst in cities or bigger towns, it can be wise to find a more secure place or campsite to park your campervan. Use common sense just like you would in your own country.
Dependant on availability, we will try our best to accommodate your extra day(s) rental. Please contact us at least 2 weeks in advance of your changed plans. Failure to drop off your vehicle at the time, date and location as stated in your Rental agreement will result in fines as detailed in our Rental Agreement Terms & Conditions.
We have various remote location depots around Chile. Locations and one way rentals may be possible dependent upon the availability of vehicles. One way rentals must be agreed upon booking your Condor camper and a remote location fee is applicable. We try out best to suit all travel plans. If you would like to drop off or pick up your campervan at a location not mentioned, please contact us and we’ll try our best to help.
No. Whilst the Carretera Austral and other roads in Chile may be unpaved, a 4 wheel drive isn’t necessary. Exercise precaution with your 2 wheel drive vehicle, stay well below speed limits on unpaved roads and use common sense. If the road looks non-drivable, find an alternative route.
As we have a basic level of insurance included as standard with all our rentals, the minimum age for hiring a Condor Camper Explorer is 21. To hire the 4x4 Pop Up you must be at least 22 years old. If you are below 21 and would like to hire a vehicle, please contact us and we’ll see if we can obtain additional insurance to accommodate your booking.
The hirer and all drivers must have a current and full (non-probationary) motor vehicle driver’s licence. This must be shown when booking your campervan and carried at all times. An international driving licence whilst not obligatory is highly recommended as an addition to your normal licence.
Insurance to drive the camper is included as standard in both Chile and Argentina (we do not charge an additional cost per day like other rental companies), and without it you would not be able to drive the camper. We are a registered Car rental provider here in Chile and therefore, all our vehicles are insured on a special 'Rent a Car' policy. We provide our customers with 'Limited Liability' which means that you are liable for damages up to the 'excess' (or, as we call it your limited liability amount). This is the liability deposit which we have to secure from your credit card at pick up amounting to $1,200,000 CLP. If for example you damage the headlight of the car, we only charge you the cost to repair the headlight, in this case ($52,000 CLP). However, we try and be as fair as possible, and look at each case individually and work out the associated repair cost (we do not profit from these accidental damages). Any damage at all that you incur will be deducted from your liability deposit. Should you incur a single vehicle accident (SVA) or the camper is stolen, the customers liability for this occurrence is up to 2,500,000CLP and is a standard rent a car policy clause here in Chile. Because of this, many customers obtain travel insurance in their own country which covers them for any additional expenses incurred relating to rental cars. As always when travelling, it's an excellent idea to have insurance which covers personal possessions and medical expenses during any travel trip. Many customers actually have this cover with their credit card companies and aren't aware of it (so please ask). For more information please see our Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions.
A liability deposit of $1,200,000 CLP is taken from your credit card at pick up. Once the vehicle has been returned without damage and no Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions breached, we will release the liability deposit. For full details of what may be taken from your liability deposit owing to damage/replacement of items please see our Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions.
As standard, you are liable for all damage caused to the vehicle until we are able to receive payment from the third party insurer. Your liability deposit will be charged in full, and you will be reimbursed when a full payment has been received. Please see Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions for more information.
